About

The Economics Student Society (ESS) is a student run organisation that represents all students in the Economics department. We advocate our members interests socially and professionally.

The ESS meets bi-weekly every semester to organise events, seminars and workshops to connect Economics students to fellow students inside and outside the Economics department and with professionals.

Past Events

The ESS has successfully hosted social, academic and professional enhancement events such as our:

G&F Workshop (Every Fall)

Freedom 55 Office Tour (Every Fall)

LinkedIn Workshop (Every Summer)

Pub Nights/Summer Socials (Summer and Spring)

CPA/DAP Workshop

Annual Case Competitions (Every Fall)

Annual Career Night (Every Spring)

This year we are planning on having more office tours and workshops to improve students' technical skills to help them see different career paths with their economics degree.

We also have our own clothing line! We got our merchandise recently and we’re super proud of it! The team collectively worked on it to finalise the design that is neutral so that anyone can wear it! You can find our super hot fire hoodies here: https://www.sfu-ess.com/merchandise

Common Room

Unfortunately we don’t have a common room that is open to all Economics students, but we are trying our best to find one in the future!

We respectfully acknowledge that FASS Fest takes place on the unceded ancestral and traditional territories of the səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations, on which we are privileged to live, work, and play. Unceded means that these territories have never been handed over, sold, or given up by these nations, and we are currently situated on occupied territories. The settler colony of British Columbia was created using various forms of strategic violence and dispossession, which has structured our society and created lasting injustices that today persist. We acknowledge that, in the present, new forms of colonial violence and dispossession continue to be established on these territories.
